To be considered for admission to WashU Law’s JD program, applicants must hold a bachelor's degree (or the equivalent) from an accredited college or university and provide a valid and reliable admission test (LSAT, GRE, or JD-Next) score as required by the American Bar Association. While not required, for strongest consideration, applicants may submit the following: 1) a personal statement (no more than three pages in length); 2) a resume; 3) letters of recommendation (at least two letters of recommendation are strongly encouraged); and 4) addenda that clarify or elaborate on other pieces of the application and/or wholly new information for the admissions committee to consider.

WashU is responsible for confirming that visitors and students possess the necessary level of English language proficiency to succeed in their respective course of study and/or program. For details on English language proficiency requirements for applicants to WashU Law’s JD program, applicants should reference the WashU Office for International Students & Scholars website.

In addition to a bar examination, there are character, fitness, and other qualifications for admission to the bar in every U.S. jurisdiction. Applicants are encouraged to determine the requirements for any jurisdiction in which they intend to seek admission by contacting the jurisdiction. Addresses for all relevant agencies are available through the National Conference of Bar Examiners (NCBE).

Application Process

WashU Law boasts a $0 application fee for all. WashU Law offers two ways to submit an application to the JD program: 1) through the Law School Admission Council (LSAC); or 2) directly on the WashU Law website.

After a written application has been submitted, applicants may be invited to a virtual interview to further discuss their background and goals with a member of the admissions team. Interviews are by invitation only.

All admitted students are reviewed for scholarship awards, which consider both need and merit.

Admitted applicants are required to submit tuition deposits to secure their seats in the class and any scholarship award. The amounts and deadlines for said deposits can be found in WashU Law’s JD program Application Instructions.
