English Language Programs
WashU Continuing & Professional Studies (CAPS) English Language Programs (ELP) are designed to strengthen and advance English language capacities through courses, support, and assessments. ELP helps WashU students who speak English as an additional language achieve academic and professional success.
Academic Pathways
ELP has offered an academic and professional language support program for WashU graduate students and scholars for over 40 years. This program is designed to connect students' and scholars' knowledge of English with the skills of scholarship through courses in three academic pathways: academic writing, conversational proficiency, and presentations and teaching. Refer to the ELP Academic Program Pathways tab for further details.
ELP Resources
- Language proficiency assessment for WashU international undergraduate and graduate students, postdoctoral scholars, and other WashU-affiliated individuals
- Individualized meetings for resources, planning, and feedback to support students in developing their English language skills for academic and professional success
English on Demand
ELP offers customized, on-demand programming in English for specific professional purposes, Community English, English for Researchers, and Pronunciation for Clear Communication. Drawing on a long history of expertise in applied linguistics, ELP can develop programming tailored to your specific needs based on the principles of effective language instruction and adult learning.
