Program Requirements
- Total Units Required: 16
- Grade Requirement: Students must earn a grade of C– or higher
Required Courses
Students who intend to minor in German must complete 16 units of coursework (GERMAN 2020 Intermediate German: Core Course IV and above) with a grade of C– or higher. With the exception of GERMAN 3400 Topics in German Studies and its 1-unit discussion section (GERMAN 3401 Topics in German Studies: German Language Subsection), only courses taught in German will count toward the minor. Students must take two of the three courses offered at the 3000 level (GERMAN 3010 Advanced German: 20th Century History and Texts, GERMAN 3020 Advanced German: Contemporary Literature and Culture, and GERMAN 3030 Advanced German: Stories and Storytelling), in any order, before graduation. At least 3 of the 16 required units must be at the 4000 level. All minors are required to participate in an official German proficiency exam in the final semester of their senior year.
Additional Information
- At least half of the courses at the 3000 level and above must have been acquired either in residence at Washington University or in overseas programs affiliated with Washington University.
- Any credits obtained at the 3000 or 4000 level during the summer institute program in Berlin may count toward the minor.
